MARCH EXHIBITION - This Place We Call Home - Karyn Kowal

August Exhibition – Neighbourhoods – Artist Heart - In the month of August we host a show by this Brandon collective - which includes members Douglas Brolund, Errin Witherspoon, Forouzandeh Kasrai, Erna Honeyman, and Linda Aleta Tame. The artists will be joining us for tea on August 31st. This show includes a variety of styles and mediums and should not be missed.


July Exhibition: Rural Ruins – Elaine Rawlings – this show consists of 40 painting spanning 24 years featuring abandoned houses and barns in the local area. The buildings show the affect of aging and weathering through the years, but still retain elements of beauty they possessed as they served the needs of families who lived in them.

May Exhibition: Between the Lines - Nova Cassan

Nova was born in Brandon MB and raised in the Carberry sand hills where she has returned to raise a family and continue her visual art practice. From a young age Nova has been making art and experimenting with a wide variety art medium. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art Honours degree from the University of Manitoba. She has participated in many group art shows, including juried shows, and has had several solo exhibitions throughout Manitoba. She has over 20 years of workshop instruction experience and community art involvement. Nova enjoys working with all ages of students in a wide variety of artistic mediums.

February - March Exhibition - Richelle Treloar

Come in and check out the exhibition “She’s Too Much” Exhibition by Richelle Treloar. This exhibition celebrating women includes seven vibrant pieces capturing women in their many states.


August Exhibition - Jan Jenkins

Come in and check out the exhibition “In the Wind” Exhibition by Jan Jenkins. This is exhibition includes a poem and art series as an exploration of pen and ink zenwork and repeating pattern.


July Exhibitions - Art in Agriculture Group Exhibition (Gallery) & Hamiota High school Student Exhibition (2nd Floor)

Come in and see the creative work by artist focused on capturing the beauty and importance of agriculture.

The Hamiota Student Art Show featuring the works of Grade 5, 6, 7 & 8 students in clay cardboard, drawings and stop motion will be on display on the second floor studio for the month of July. The reception tea will be held July 14th 2:00-4:00pm.


June Exhibitions - Hamiota and Area Art Club ( Gallery) & Arts West Travelling Gallery (2nd Floor)

Come in and see the many works of the members of the Hamiota and area Art Club. Their exhibition “Working from Home” features the many creations that the members worked on through the pandemic.

Travelling Gallery - Join us to view the Arts West Travelling Gallery made up of 19 Art works have been selected by jury for touring in western Manitoba.


May Exhibition - Lee Beaton

These colourful landscapes are just right for spring! Life is complex and we view ourselves through the filters thrust upon us by our circumstances. Exploring colour, texture, and perspective in a variety of mediums and styles, the artist shares a part of themselves in each piece.

Lee Beaton is a multi-disciplinary visual artist based in Portage la Prairie, MB. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours Degree at Brandon University while working full-time as the Manager of Gallery Operations at Prairie Fusion Arts & Entertainment, the art gallery and performance theatre in Portage la Prairie.


April Exhibition - Susana Danyliuk

“Life is what happens when you have made other plans.” (John Lennon). This quote sums up Susana’s approach to her art. Her work is a mirror of her life experiences, is reflected in the colour and energy that moves throughout her art. At times playful, other times, intense dark emotion. Always a reflection of the work she lives in as a mature woman of a certain age . . . in all its messiness and uncertainty. Susana became involved in various art groups mentoring projects through MAWA ( Rural Artist Mentoring Group). She has displayed her work at numerous galleries throughout western Manitoba.

February Exhibition - Douglas Brolund - ‘An Old Man’s Eyes’

This exhibition features the many works of Douglas Brolund and represents a full year of painting full time with out other obligations. Works include gouache and oil paintings featuring the seasons.

Being a member of ‘Artist Heart’ Collective member had provided him with the priviledge of painting with other artists.


January Exhibition - Northern Indigenous Art

The Mid-West Arts Council is pleased to feature an exhibition of Northern Indigenous art on loan from the private collection of Dr. Chris Breneman. This beautiful exhibition includes unique tapestries and sculptures depicting aspects of traditional northern life. Stylized design and bright colours make this an exhibition that should not be missed.

May Exhibition - Decker Hutterian Brethren . . . A Journey

In 2020 the Decker Colony School was awarded a 3 year 'Artists in Schools' grant with local artist Joan Trott. This is your opportunity to see the Decker Colony community through their eyes and wonderful talent


April Exhibition - The annual "Quilt Til you Wilt" quilt show will be on display at the Heritage Arts Centre until April 28th featuring the work of many talented local quilters who have been working on their craft at home this past year. Come in and view this beautiful display.

January Photography Exhibit  - by Lynne Alexander of Lenore, MB is on display at the Arts Centre.  For many years Lynne has used her camera to capture the beauty of country life.  These beautifully framed prairie scenes are stunning. If you love the land, colours, and heartfelt appreciation of rural life, this is an exhibition you should take time to visit.  Many pieces are available for purchase.  


November Exhibition - Carol Forsyth and Marilyn Paterson

This joint exhibition features the work of two members of the Mid-West Arts Club:

Carol Forsyth (Oak River) - Carol’s work features the beauty of trees and splendor of the prairie landscape. Working in acrylics and watercolours, Carol’s images connect to nature and the beauty of the world around us.

Marilyn Paterson (Shoal Lake) - Marilyn’s work demonstrates her passion and talent for a variety of art forms including felting, painting, tapestry, and more. Colour and textures highlight the talented works for this artist.

October Exhibition - Water Run by Wayne and Marilyn Schick

This photography exhibit features nature scenes captured by Wayne and Marilyn Schick. Over the past 10 years, while keeping their cistern topped up, Wayne and Marilyn Schick used their camera to record what they’ve seen in the 7 mile distance between their home and the local well. Their photos show that the distance became much more than an essential routine

September Exhibition

The Mid-West Arts Council is sharing an art exhibition “Seasons of Life” and sale in memory of artist and council life member Maureen Schwanke.  Maureen was key to the establishment of the Mid-West Arts Council and has contributed to Arts and Culture throughout our area. She was an avid painter and knitter.  She worked hard to promote artists in the community. Maureen’s art work featuring local landscapes and her knitting will be on display and for sale at the Heritage Arts Centre until September 24th. Proceeds form the sales help the Mid-West Arts council continue to offer arts and culture initiatives to our rural communities.

July-August Exhibition

You will be blown away by the beautiful exhibition of paintings on display for mid-July through to the end of August at the gallery. Martin Penfold’s works are a grouping of large acrylics celebrating the beauty of rural life. If you love the land, colours, and heartfelt appreciation of rural life, this is an exhibition you should take time to visit

The Hamiota & Mid-West Arts Club. This creative and colourful collection of works includes a variety of mediums and styles by various local artists.

March Exhibition

Marion Roblin started out in art after retiring with the idea that she could draw portraits of her children and grandchildren.  With no training and being a begineer, it took a lot of patience, practice and time.  Years later she became interested in other mediums after attending Camp Wannakumbac and subsequently took some lessons from Writing Zhao and then Becky Chinn. She also took a level of the Art program at B.U. Art has become a favorite pastime and she is always trying to learn more. Many of Marions pieces are for sale.

Laura Stenhouse is a self taught artist from Elkhorn MB. She works primarily in oils, although she also likes experimenting in different mediums. Laura says she just loves the process of creativity and learning. She enjoys taking in a gallery or museum and marvelling at how different artists translate their world with art. Laura is accepting commisions.

November Exhibition - Irene Patterson’s Leaf Art. Beautiful paintings on pressed leaves as well as Irene’s other artistic offerings. November 1 - end of November. Meet and Greet the artist on Nov. 7, 2-4 p.m.


Celebrating Canada by Yvette Cuthbert, Portage

Yvette Cuthbert, Portage Artist, “Celebrating Canada:, will be in attendance at the August 1 “Tea at the Old Bank” in Hamiota, from 3-4 p.m. Come out and meet the artist, and one last opportunity to see her amazing show!

Artist Yvette Cuthbert challenged herself to create 150 12 x 12 inch images of Canada for Canada’s 150th. The Heritage Art Gallery has 75 on exhibition from July 1 - August 1. Gallery is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 1-4 p.m. and serving tea and dessert on Thursday 2-4 p.m. ($5), except Fair Day July 18th! Yvette has images to connect with nature - the Loon, Canada Goose; the personalities - Don Cherry, Rick Hansen; the history - Blue Nun nurses in WWI, camels used during the Gold Rush; and the geography - Niagara Falls, Flin Flon….and many more. An exhibition of all things Canadian to help you remember and make you think. The other 75 images are on display at the Dauphin art centre and in McCreary, so do a tour and take in them all!

Award-winning local artist, Mary Lowe, of Harding, MB. will be exhibiting her display “Whimsical Meanderings” from August 2 - August 28 before it goes on tour throughout the province. Mary’s unique watercolours with a main subject filled with loose, detailed tiny vignettes of animals, people, landscapes will be for sale as well as her amazing sculptures! One of the Manitoba’s finest artists! Gallery hours Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 1-4 p.m., Thursdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Drop in for the Street Market Thursday 10 - 1 p.m. or Tea at the Arts Centre Thursday, 2-4 p.m. $5 !).
